This carbon steel car, #BC 132, is the first one in the passenger trains of E.F. Vitória-Minas. It has an electric generator to supply energy to the other passenger cars and also carries the train crew. Generator cars are rare in Brazilian passenger trains; generally the electricity needed by a passenger car is generated by its own generators and stored in batteries. However, this approach generally is not satisfactory due to the low commercial speed of the (remaining) Brazilian passenger trains and the high demand that air conditioning requires.
