Italians, Russians, Polishes, Lythuanians and people from several other countries helped to built many Brazilian railroads, a common fact in this country during the late XIX and early XX centuries. This photo shows immigrant workers building a tunnel at the Mayrink-Santos branch. It was kindly sent by Wilson Piragis, from São Paulo SP; his father, Bolys Piragis, is the first man at the left. He arrived in Brazil in 1929.
