Rede Mineira de Viação

This railroad was the result of the amalgamation of several small railroads that served the south of the Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro state, like E.F. Oeste de Minas, Rede Sul Mineira, E.F. Muzambinho and other railways. In 1957 it was merged into the R.F.F.S.A., the Brazilian state-owned railroad network. Now it is part of Ferrovia Centro Atlântica - F.C.A., the privatized company that took over the railroads of the central and eastern portion of Brazil.

Special Section - E.F. Oeste de Minas: A Bitolinha de São João del Rey

The Bitolinha de São João del Rey (São João del Rey's Small Gauge), is a 0,76 m gauge railway branch between São João del Rey and Tiradentes that formerly was part of the huge network of E.F. Oeste de Minas. Now it is preserved; a touristic train, pulled by historical Baldwin steam locomotives, is regularly operated there.
