A workers crew removing a rock slide in the Serra do Mar section of the Mayrink-Santos branch. As the photo shows a double line section, probably the problem occurred near some station. As this is a very rainy country, this kind of occurrence is not rare. Considering the original E.F. Sorocabana livery of the G.E. U12-B diesel-electric locomotive in the background, this photo was probably shot between the late sixties and early seventies. The section São Paulo-Evangelista de Souza-Samaritá, which comprises the Serra do Mar sub-section, was electrified up to the mid-seventies when it was scrapped by a big tropical storm - exactly during the critical days of the oil crisis! This photo shows the catenary system used at that time. This photo, shot by Júlio Salvador, was originally published in the E.F. Sorocabana magazine Nossa Estrada (Our Road) in 1973; this copy is courtesy of Maurício Torres, from Miami, U.S.A.
