This is the Ouro Verde (Green Gold), a luxury express train of E.F. Sorocabana. The name of this express train is a reference to the main source of the São Paulo state wealth up to the sixties: coffee beans... It is being headed by an ALCO 2-8-2 steam locomotive, #228, at Júlio Prestes, the São Paulo city terminal station. This station was just transformed in a concert room. The carbon steel passenger cars were supplied by the German manufacturer Linke Hoffman in the late thirties. The copy of this photo is courtesy of Alberto Henrique del Bianco, from Indaiatuba SP; he kindly distributed it in E.F. Brasil, an electronic list for discussion about the Brazilian railroads.
