A rail car for 36 passengers built at the maintenance works of Viação Férrea do Rio Grande do Sul. Note the beautiful streamlined shape of this car! During the fifties most Brazilian railroads tried to combat the competition from highway transport; the building of such rail cars was just one example of this fight. Unfortunately time showed that this resistance was almost futile... This photo was extracted from an ad of Viação Férrea do Rio Grande do Sul published at the 1955 Suplement of Revista Ferroviária: Estradas de Ferro do Brasil (Railroads of Brazil).
