1947 - at this time, railroad age just started to fade in Brazil, but the end of World War II brought euphoria and resumed the supply of new equipment to the exhausted railroads after long years of hard work and scarcity of resources. Of course, the country as a whole was just recovering from the hard years of war and there was an euphoric atmosphere in the new democracy. This General Electric ad about its domestic radios, published at the July 16, 1947 edition of the O Cruzeiro magazine, mentions the delivery of the famous V8 electric locomotives to the Companhia Paulista de Estradas de Ferro. They were ordered in 1940 but most of them were built only after the end of WWII. Enjoy the western-like style of the picture hearing the Bonanza TV series theme, really more alike the U.S. west than the Brazilian São Paulo state... This illustration was kindly sent by Edson Salvador Castro, from Jaú, SP, specially to the E.F. Brasil site.
