D&H class I2 #600 in Sterzing bluebonnet paint

The production version of the class I motors is mechanically identical to the prototype, but, as you can see, the appearance is quite different (thanks to the Portland shops preference for smoothly streamlined cab units)

D&H class I2m #607 also in Sterzing bluebonnet paint

In 2005, Colonie started modifying these units so they could run everywhere under wire. This involved lopping off the rear cab to fit the new transformers needed, and while they were at it they put in HEP so these motors could pull passenger trains. Colonie doesn’t have nearly the capacity that Portland does, so only #605 & #607 were converted by 2013.

10 of these were built and all of them are in service.
