The Chemin de fer terminal de Montréal’s Diesel Locomotive Pool was formed to maintain a power pool for unelectrified lines when the LT&L bought a handful of Bombardier HR-412 locomotives after the Canadian National hot potatoed these unreliable things out the door. These new units, plus a handful of Alcos that were newly out of a job as electrification proceeded on D&H South, went into a locomotive pool, soon to be joined by what seems to be a neverending stream of GP38s (et al) from newly purchased railroads.
As of 2022, the DLP has all of the original 10 HR-412’s on its roster, 7 FPA-4s, 2 FPB-4s, 4 RS-2s, 2 RS-3s, 2 RS-11s, a dozen C-425s & M-420s, two F750s, a dozen M-630 & M-636s, another 7 centuries that are being stripped for parts before an eventual rebuild to ILW “C-644"s, a large collection of ILW’s RS-38 (remanufactured GP38 & GP38-2s) and then something on the order of 180 EMDs of one sort or another. About half of these units are leased back to various subsidiaries of the Parsons Vale; the rest are either leased to other railroads, in storage, or being remanufactured into more modern units.
