A train goes by...

Australian Reports

Whilst my interest in railways goes back to the earliest point of my memory (I cannot remember not being interested in trains and railways),  I was only able to start travelling on trains and photographing them beginning in the 1980's.  These first trips were mostly Steamrail excursions out of Melbourne to various destinations around the state.

Bear in mind that, in the 1980's pictures I had a 2nd hand Kodak Instamatic camera that took 126 film, and little idea of photograph composition!  This camera was upgraded to a Konica point & shoot in the mid 80's, but this was also a fixed focus, fixed exposure, fixed lens camera.  At least it was 35mm!  Most of the pictures here from that era were taken on Kodachrome 64 slide film.

In the 90's this was finally upgraded to a Minolta SLR camera and some experimentation with various types of film and lenses.
