In 2005, three recently retired class B2s and half of a B1 were rebuilt into class N locomotives, but since the B1 needed a newly built section they all ended up being the new subclass N2; single ended multisystem motors with a more spacious rear section that contained additional electrical components to provide HEP as needed.
(theoretically the rear section of an N2 could be mated to the front section of an N (and visa-versa) to get a motor with the horsepower of of the front unit, but power shortages keep these units from being pulled out of service to experiment.)
All of them are in service.
